Ich und die Roboter
Conception, illustration and design of a flip flap book on the future of humans and machines
Situation
We usually tell our children a lot about the past, but little about the future. No wonder. New technologies are changing the world so quickly that we adults ourselves don't know what's coming next. It is therefore often said somewhat disparagingly that we can ‘only’ speculate about the future. And this is precisely the aim of our colourful flip flap picture book ‘Ich und die Roboter’. What if intelligent robots were normal in our everyday lives? What tasks could they do? What would be useful, what would be annoying or even dangerous?
Process
Based on their experience in futurology and scientific illustration, Martina Kühne and Maurus Zehnder have developed eleven weird and wonderful creatures that make the complex future of man and machine, of AI, robotics and biotechnology, easy to experience. They draw our attention to an exciting future and stimulate our imagination at the same time.
Outcome
The prototypes in the book can be used to create any number of new fantasy creatures for a - more or less - smart future using the mix-and-match principle. What if our fridge becomes so intelligent that it goes grocery shopping itself? What if the self-driving car prefers to go on holiday without us? And what if we humans receive regular updates ourselves? Will everything then become simpler? Or just complicated in a different way? The book ‘Ich und die Roboter’ allows us to discuss important social, ethical and philosophical questions about the future of humans and machines.
