Sustainable Futures Under Construction
Development and design of a speculative sticker kit for the collaborative creation of Stadtideen 2050
Situation
To mark its 20th anniversary, Swissnex SF not only looked back, but also forward. The goal of the ‘Sustainable Futures Under Construction’ initiative was to develop new ideas for the future of the city with scientists, entrepreneurs and thought leaders. Kühne Wicki was commissioned to facilitate and moderate a series of ideation workshops in Basel, Lausanne and Zurich.
Process
For the ideation workshops, Kühne Wicki has developed the speculative tool kit ‘Stick to your City’. It consists of recyclable stickers. The stickers can be used to design and visualise desirable ideas during a two-hour workshop.
Outcome
Over 20 utopian future ideas for the city of 2050 were developed in three workshops. For example: a playground for robots, a cross-species communication tool or a blockchain-enabled food system. But even more important than the individual ideas: the shared space that was created for speculation.
